Strange Detective Tales

During the monster movie craze of the 1930's, monsters from around the world moved to Los Angeles to sell their stories and get movie deals. Unfortunately, they all got screwed over by Hollywood executives who stole their ideas and left them broke. So by the late 50's there is a monster underclass fairly well-established in the shadow of Hollywood. Renfield ( the bug-eating sycophant from Dracula ) and Igor (Dr. Frankenstein’s bumbling assistant) are private detectives fighting to protect the monsters that have no one else to protect them. A tongue-in-cheek detective tale - it's pure noir, but all the femme fatales are zombies, the gangsters little green men and the most dangerous monsters of all are humans.

Renfield

Renfield

Like the insects he eats, Renfield is a survivor. But ever since his beloved master Dracula died, he’s been looking for a purpose for his afterlife. He found one in Los Angeles, as a private investigator for the monsters now stuck there. Renfield is an all or nothing sort of guy – he’s passionate, sometimes to the point of obsession. He tries to do good, to be a hero, but his impulses often get the worst of him. He's not quite a man, but not quite a vampire either – Dracula made him a vampire, but he still lives off insects instead of human blood. He’s practically immortal and very hard to kill, but he lacks most of the physical and psychic powers of real vampires.

Dr. Vorlic

"Dr." Igor Vorlic

Vorlic spent the last hundred years in service to every mad scientist he could find - always playing the faithful assistant, but never able to make it on his own. He's managed to keep his body alive through frequent organ replacement – one thing he’s good at is carving up corpses. He and Renfield are drawn together by the same thing that keeps them constantly bickering – they've both spent their lives playing second fiddle to a more powerful master. Igor sees their detective work as a means to an end, providing the resources he needs to fund his passion for SCIENCE!! Unfortunately, he’s just not a very good scientist. But don’t tell him that.
